Former Liverpool boss blames Jurgen Klopp’s training methods for injury crisis

Roy Evans not happy

Reports this morning suggest Liverpool are looking for planning permission to extend their treatment room.

The club suffered more woe on the injury front on Tuesday night as they beat Stoke 1-0 to move closer to a place in the Capital One Cup final.

Dejan Lovren and Philippe Coutinho both suffered hamstring problems early in the game and, late on, Kolo Toure appeared to clutch the back of his leg with a similar complaint.

All in all it means Liverpool’s injury list in early 2016 is looking very bleak indeed.

Jurgen Klopp is struggling to figure out why his players are getting sidelined so often, whilst at last one Dutch fitness coach thinks the German himself is to blame for the club’s current injury woes.

And now former Liverpool manager Roy Evans has added to the debate and questioned what exactly Liverpool are doing in training that is causing players to break down so much.

The ex-Reds boss spoke to TalkSport on Wednesday morning and told the radio station that Klopp must be held accountable for the current injury crisis.

“I wonder what kind of training Jurgen is doing in between matches. It seems like he is trying to do mini pre-seasons between games and if you’re playing at that intensity in games and then do heavy training sessions you’re going to end up with these muscle injuries.

“They’ve got four or five hamstring injuries, so something is not right somewhere. You’ve got to look at what you’re doing at training and maybe be a bit more sensible.”

Liverpool are likely to have to try and find some short-term defensive cover due to their lengthy injury list. Evans feels that Klopp will have no option but to dip into the transfer market.

“We’ve more or less run out of centre-backs now so I think Jurgen will be looking to do something in the window. If you need players, go and get them!”
