Remember him?
Once dubbed the next big thing in football, Freddy Adu could be about to join yet another club as he attempts to salvage his career.
It’s safe to say the American has not lived up to the hype surrounding him as a teenager. At the age of just 14, he became the youngest player to ever sign a professional MLS contract when DC United chose him as the number one overall pick in the 2004 MLS Super Draft.
He scored 11 goals between the ages of 15 and 17 for DC United, but since then has only managed to score 16 career goals at 12 different clubs, across 11 years.

Still only 28, he could be joining Swedish third division club Oskarshamns AIK, according to reports in Sweden. He is a free agent, having last played for Tampa Bay Rowdies in the 2015-16 season, where he didn’t score a goal in 12 appearances.

He has previously played in both Finland and Norway, and Sweden could become the ninth country he has played in. Others include Serbia, Brazil and Turkey, along with a series of unsuccessful trials, one of which was at Blackpool.
It would be nice to see some sort of justification for the hype Adu received as a teenager, even if it is in Sweden’s third tier. Good luck Freddy. Your time is now.
