Gary Lineker’s reaction to Jamie Vardy staying at Leicester is how all football fans are feeling

(Except Arsenal fans).

Leicester City’s hopes of retaining their Premier League title got a big boost on Thursday as star striker Jamie Vardy signed a new contract.

It looked like the 29-year-old would be tempted away from Leicester by the bright lights of London after Arsenal agreed to meet his release clause of £20m.

Instead, Vardy showed loyalty to the club who had taken a chance on him when they paid a record fee for a non-league player to prise him away from Fleetwood Town, penning a new four-year deal at the King Power Stadium.

It means that the Leicester City fairytale can continue for now, and the Foxes’ most famous supporter was unsurprisingly thrilled with the announcement that their top scorer and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year would be sticking around for the foreseeable future.

Minutes after the new deal was made public, former Leicester City striker Gary Lineker took to Twitter to express his joy, praising the display of loyalty from Vardy and the ambition of his boyhood club.

And of course, with the day that’s in it, the Match of the Day presenter made sure to get a cheeky referendum reference in there too.

We’re sure the pair will share a moment if the BBC are awarded the coverage for England’s Euro 2016 second round tie with Iceland on Monday.
