Gary Neville’s first venture into the world of football management is over, after just 28 games.
The former Manchester United captain, who was announced as Valencia’s manager at the start of December, left the club on Wednesday.
Reacting in a statement released shortly after his dismissal, Neville politely thanked those connected with the club for his brief stay in Spain but stressed he had wanted to continue.
“I would like to thank Valencia Football Club, the fans, staff and the players. I would have liked to have continued the work I started but understand that we are in a results business and in the 28 games they have not been to my standards or to those which are required by this Club”.
Valencia won just ten of their games under Neville, drawing seven and losing the remaining 11.
