Whatever way you look at it, Gary Neville’s time at Valencia was a bit of a disaster.
There were great things expected of the former Manchester United captain when he took over as the head coach of one of Spain’s most storied clubs.
But the Englishman lasted just four months in the hot seat, leaving Valencia just six points clear of the relegation zone and with three wins from their 16 league games under his stewardship.
Some delighted at seeing him fail while others were disappointed, but everyone agreed that it was a pretty poor showing from someone who had shown so much tactical insight during his time on Sky Sports.
And on Monday night, Neville returned to Monday Night Football much to the joy of football fans everywhere.

Alongside Jamie Carragher for the first time in what felt like forever, Neville spoke frankly about both England’s Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland as well as his time at the Mestalla.
As the topic of his Spanish misadventure was brought up, Carragher leaned back and took it all in, declaring: “I’ve been waiting six months for this. Let’s go.”
But Neville said he had no regrets about taking the job and insisted he had learned a lot from the experience.

But it didn’t stop there for the former England coach, as he was pressed to go into further detail about his side’s infamous 7-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.
Neville described the result as “probably the worst I’d felt since I got told that Carragher was coming to Sky”.
