A German Cup first-round tie was abandoned on Monday night after the referee was struck by a lighter.
The incident occurred in the 71st minute of the clash between lower league rivals VfL Osnabrueck and RB Leipzig. The missile was thrown from a section of the home crowd.
Referee Martin Petersen was immediately rushed to hospital in an ambulance as a precaution, but was not thought to be seriously injured.
Osnabrueck, a third division team, were leading their second-tier opposition 1-0, when one of their own fans caused the abrupt end to proceedings.
The German FA have already started an investigation, which may lead to Osnabruck being thrown out of the tournament.
