Scotland needed that win badly.
Gordon Strachan watched on as his side recorded a dramatic 1-0 victory over Slovenia to keep their hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup alive… Just.
Scotland find themselves in fourth place after Chris Martin struck late on to deliver three vital points in the latest match of an underwhelming qualification campaign.
Speculation was widespread that anything but a victory over Slovenia on Sunday night would see Strachan’s time as Scotland manager come to an end but he will soldier on in the hot-seat.
And it can’t be said that he’s lost any of his sense of humour amid the pressure that is being piled on him.
During his post-win interview with Sky Sports, Strachan was presented with the suggestion that he had been the victim of plenty of criticism in recent weeks.

“Jesus!! I never knew that,” Strachan said.
“Well thanks very much for that. That’s really hurt me.
“Thank you very much. So I must go home now and have a wee cry to myself.”
He’s always good for a line is that Gordon.
