There’s always a method to the madness…
Cristiano Ronaldo has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons at Euro 2016 so far. With Portugal stuttering through their group (one of the JOE team is regretting tipping them to win) Â and the Real Madrid forward frustrated by a lack of goals, (not for want of trying), Ronaldo has been painted as the pantomime baddie of the tournament.
Every game Ronaldo plays, the three-time Ballon D’Or winner is scrutinised. For his post-match comments, for his free kick technique, for his penalty taking prowess. It seems like Ronaldo can’t quite catch a break at Euro 2016.
That footage emerged of Ronaldo getting in a huff with a reporter ahead of Portugal’s final group game against Hungary only confirmed the narrative – Ronaldo was the pretty boy villain of Euro 2016, and he didn’t care about anyone.
Ronaldo’s not really helped himself in these Euros, has he? Throwing a reporters microphone into a lake. pic.twitter.com/cCMwaIhVPJ

Or was he? As Ronaldo fans informed us, Cristiano may have thrown the reporter’s microphone in the bottom of a lake because of a long running feud he had with the journalist’s employer – CMTV.
As we understand it, Cristiano Ronaldo has grievances with CMTV because of stories they’ve reportedly printed about the star’s personal and family life.
In 2014, Ronaldo refused to answer a question posed to him by a CMTV reporter, and in 2015 he said he was going to sue the company because of a story they ran about him.

It looks like this week’s journalist incident was less a case of a footballer having a huff, and more of a man retaliating to an outlet who continually frustrate him.
Here’s hoping Ronaldo can form better Euro 2016 memories going forward as the round of 16 awaits.
