Heroic goalkeeper involved in best 40 seconds of football you’ll see this season

Recovery of the century

Ben Kiely

Every goalkeeper has their day.

For Belgian goalkeeper Colin Coosemans, his moment of glory came on Saturday, in the dying seconds of KV Mechelen vs R. Excel Mouscron in the Belgian Pro League.

The Mechelen shotstopper turned into a target man in the opposition box as his side trailed 2-1 in the closing stages.

A poor first touch off his chest meant he had to take off sprinting to keep the game alive, but he managed to retain possession before the ball went out for a goal kick. However, he put himself in a dreadful spot with heavy pressure coming from an opposition defender.

Coosemans showed balls of steel by trying to take on the defender, but after knocking it past him and sprinting ahead, he found himself getting dispossessed.

Shit. The. Bed.

He lost the ball, leaving a goal wide open at the other end of the field and the result slipping through their fingers. They had gone from desperation mode to survival mode in the space of a few seconds, so he needed to atone his mistake.

And that he did.

He found the ball at his feet again after a fellow teammate forced an error. Cutting inside the box, he spotted another teammate unmarked at the far post.

Coosemans played the perfect low ball across the box and well, you know what happened next.

It finished 2-2.
