Heroic spectator saves cyclists from enormous smash (video)

This could have been very, very nasty...

This could have been very, very nasty.

Thanks to the lightning-fast reactions of a bystander, an enormous pile-up was narrowly avoided at the GP de Fourmies in France.

When a group of riders ahead of the peloton crashed, a bike was left on the road. Aware that the main field were seconds away, the spectator manages to grab the bike and dive out of the way with literally fractions of a second to spare.

Taking a tumble down a grass verge for their troubles, it’s clear from the video, posted by Eurosport’s Leunis Jacques, that without this individual’s intervention, there would have been a very, very messy crash to deal with.
