Few thought, back in February 2015, that newcomer Holly Holm would dethrone dominant UFC champion Ronda Rousey.
The Preacher’s Daughter pummelled Rousey to take the bantamweight strap, last Saturday, in an outcome that shocked the MMA world. Holm, however, was fairly on the money about Rousey being far from unbeatable.
The former boxing world champion was, almost inevitably, asked about Rousey ahead of her UFC debut against Raquel Pennington back in February.
She commented, “I think Ronda is great, she’s ran through everybody and made it look easy.
“Is it tough to beat her? Absolutely. I think everybody’s tried to bring their best game. But on the flip side, everyone is beatable. Everybody’s human and everybody’s beatable.
“I think the biggest thing for me if I think about a fight that big is [that] you have to walk in there believing in yourself. This is how I’ve always felt from the very beginning of my career.
“If you don’t even feel like you can do it, you shouldn’t be in there, because you’ve already lost mentally.”
Following her victory over Pennington, Holm was again asked about the possibility of facing Rousey.
