Fergie's a fan

How do you motivate a Manchester United fan?

Short of a shouty team talk from Roy Keane, there’s probably no better way of inspiring a United supporter than with an impassioned good luck message from the club’s greatest ever manager.

Ahead of his upcoming shot at the WBO heavyweight title, undefeated Brit Hughie Fury received a letter in the post from none other than Sir Alex Ferguson.

Fury will meet champion Joseph Parker next month in the biggest fight of his career to date and, being an avid United supporter, he was thrilled to get a personal message from Fergie to inspire him over the line in his final few weeks of hard training.

With just a few weeks to go until the September 23 meeting in Manchester, Fury took to Twitter to thank Ferguson for the kind words.

The letter reads: “Having spoken to one of my old players Frank ‘The King’ McDougall who speaks so highly of you and your admiration of myself and United I felt I should write to you and wish you well with your big fight coming up.

“I really do hope you win against your opponent Joseph Parker when you contest the WBO Heavy Weight Championship.

“I always said to our players before big games ‘play the game not the occasion’ so remember to concentrate on that aspect of the fight.

“You are there to win and not to revel in the occasion so make sure your concentration is only on the fight, forget everything around you, your focus has to be in the ring.

“Good luck Hughie, I’ll be rooting for you!”
