“I don’t think I will ever risk putting my body through another weight cut.”
Ian Entwistle is not competing at UFC 204 and, by the sounds of things, it was definitely a safe and wise decision on the part of the UFC to take him off the card for the highly-anticipated event.
The Accrington bantamweight was slated to face off with Rob Font in Manchester on Saturday night but as the weigh-in deadline drew closer on Friday afternoon, the organisation announced that Entwistle would not be weighing in, nor would he be fighting the following evening.
Illness was the reason for Entwistle’s withdrawal and it came down to a seemingly frightening weight cut that resulted in him falling unconscious early on in the process.
The 29-year-old took to Instagram to explain just how difficult the cut was and it sounds truly harrowing.

It’s unclear whether a future at featherweight is on the cards for the 9-3 fighter but we hope that he never has to put his body through an ordeal like that again. Sporting prestige is obviously important – of that there’s no doubt. But no victory is worth the potentially irreparable damage that could be caused.
