Ireland’s momentous win over the All Blacks cost one punter $100,000

It seemed a safe enough bet.

Last month a punter took a rather confident gamble on New Zealand to go undefeated for the remainder of the year, according to a report from Stuff.co.nz.

He put $100,000 on the line, with victories over Australia a fortnight ago, Ireland on Saturday night, Italy, Ireland again, and France required for him to come out with a profit of $50,000.

The bettor would have presumed that Australia would’ve been the biggest threat to the accumulator, which bore odds of 1/2, but the All Blacks came through that test unscathed.

New Zealand were expected to steamroll Joe Schmidt’s men in Chicago but that didn’t quite go to plan.

Ireland came out 40-29 winners, ending a 111 year wait for a victory against the All Blacks, and it prematurely put an end to the hopeful bettor’s chances.

Schmidt’s men put in a performance of a lifetime on Soldier Field to deny New Zealand a true foothold in the game.

Tries from Jordi Murphy, CJ Stander, Conor Murray, Simon Zebo and Robbie Henshaw ensured a victory that will never be forgotten.

Bet responsibly, ladies and gents.
