MMA legend Georges St-Pierre is set to make a long-awaited return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Dana White, president of the promotion, said the Canadian could yet return at any weight from 155 lb to 185 lb, and that no opponent has been selected for his comeback fight.
White confirmed the news to the LA Times‘ Lance Pugmire, and floated a number of potential opponents for ‘GSP’.
“It could be the winner between Tyron Woodley and Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson, or it could be Michael Bisping,” White said.
Woodley and Thompson are due to face off for the welterweight title on March 4 after their last bout ended in a draw, while Bisping has not entered the Octagon since defending his title against Dan Henderson in October.
GSP’s last bout came in late 2013, when he beat Johny Hendricks at UFC 167 to extend his winning streak to 12 fights.
That win saw him retain the welterweight belt, but he would subsequently vacate his title in December 2013, with his career MMA record standing at 25-2.
Since then, there have been many rumours of a return, and these gathered pace this week, but there was nothing concrete until now and White admits no date has been set for the 35-year-old to make his comeback.
“I have no idea when he’s going to fight right now,” White said.
“We don’t have anything booked and literally haven’t talked to anybody about it.”
