After some debate, Jamie Carragher and Thierry Henry settled on their team of the season so far on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.
With Gary Neville now sunning himself in Valencia, it was left to Henry to debate the selections with Carragher following a vote by viewers – but on the most part the duo agreed.
Ross Barkley, who has six goals and six assists in the top flight so far, beat Santi Cazorla to a midfield spot, while Toby Alderweireld was picked to partner Mike Chris Smalling at centre-back.
The duo also agreed on Jack Butland taking his place between the sticks ahead of David de Gea, but Carragher was in disbelief at the nomination of Alexis Sanchez.
“That is a joke! Who is voting for that?” said the former Liverpool man. “How is he in there, Sanchez? I love him, he’s brilliant but this season?
“I think (West Ham’s Dimitri) Payet was brilliant at the start of the season. The impact he had – at Anfield, at the Emirates he was outstanding.”
