Jamie Carragher has said Jurgen Klopp is his preferred choice for next Liverpool manager.
Speaking on Sky Sports following Brendan Rodgers sacking, Carragher said the 48 year old”has more to prove” than rival candidates for the position, such as Carlo Ancelotti.
“If it was either Ancelotti or Klopp Liverpool fans would be ecstatic,” the former Liverpool defender said.
“If it was me, I’d go for Klopp, ahead of Ancelotti, I think he has more to prove.
“Liverpool’s not an easy job now. I think it needs someone with that energy and drive to get them back into the top four.”
However, Carragher also had some words of caution for Liverpool fans, warning that there’s murmurings behind the scenes that some Liverpool power brokers might be worried about appointing Klopp.
He also questioned whether Klopp, who achieved phenomenal success with Borussia Dortmund, would want to work within the structure of Liverpool’s transfer committee.
Carragher also asked for Liverpool to be more transparent, regardless of who the next manager is.
“There’s talk of people on Liverpool’s committee worried about Klopp,” Carragher said.
“There’s a lot going on behind the scenes. A lot of politics, players have been brought in that are not the manager’s choice, and some people, who the fans don’t know, are not accountable.
“Let’s know what goes on behind the scenes, it’s not just Rodgers who’s accountable.”
