Jamie Vardy equals Premier League goalscoring record

Tom Victor

When Ruud van Nistelrooy scored in 10 successive Premier League games in 2003, it seemed like the record might never be equalled.

Certainly few expected Jamie Vardy to match the Dutchman’s tally, but the England international has done just that after finding the net for Leicester City against Newcastle United.

When Van Nistelrooy set the record, a teenage Vardy was playing for non-league Stocksbridge Park Steels after being released by Sheffield Wednesday.

But now the 28-year-old has written his name into Premier League history, following a good luck message from the man whose achievement he has equalled.

Fittingly, he can break the record with a goal in Leicester’s next game…against Van Nistelrooy’s former club Manchester United.
