What might have been.
John Terry has paid tribute to Alex Ferguson with a rather classy Instagram post. We know what you’re thinking, “classy” isn’t a term one would often use in relation to the Chelsea skipper, but Terry posted a nice tribute to Ferguson.
Terry uploaded a photo of him as a 14-year-old with his parents and the United manager, and writes: ” I have so much respect for Sir Alex Ferguson and will never forget what he done for me and my family.”

It turns out Terry grew up a United supporter – following the footsteps of his father and grandfather – and trained with the club as a 14-year-old for two weeks before joining Chelsea.
“I was Man United growing up,” Terry told The Observer in 2006.
“You know what it’s like when you’re a boy, you want to support the team that’s winning everything. And my dad and granddad were Man United fans.
“But my first day at Chelsea I knew that was the club I wanted to be at. I just loved it. But Man United also approached me.
“I met Alex Ferguson – great to meet. During the school holidays I would go up to Manchester and train with their boys for two weeks, play a few games and come home.”
London-born Terry joined Chelsea instead and is still at the club. Both parties, United and Terry, have done okay since, despite parting ways.
