This would be a major coup.
With Liverpool’s ambitions of winning any silverware this season all but gone, focus is already turning to next season and who Jurgen Klopp may bring in during the summer transfer window.
Of course, Liverpool’s season is not over, they have the small matter of attempting to achieve Champions League qualification but nevertheless, their performances over the past month or so have revealed deficiencies in their team which need to be addressed.
The Merseyside club clearly have defensive issues but they are also over-reliant on players when it comes to their attacking options.
It’s no coincidence that Sadio Mane’s absence due to the Africa Cup of Nations coincided with Liverpool’s dreadful run of form.
Well it seems that Klopp is aware of this and is looking to bolster his attacking options in the summer transfer window.
The Mirror is reporting that Klopp is looking to sign World Cup winner, Mario Gotze, from his former club, Borussia Dortmund for next season.
According to the report, initial talks between the clubs have already taken place with regards to the potential transfer of the 24-year-old.
Liverpool were keen to sign Gotze at the end of last season but he opted to return to Dortmund after signing for Bayern Munich during the summer of 2013.
However, the attacking midfielder has not featured as heavily this season in comparison to his first season with Dortmund under Klopp and according to reports, is looking for an opportunity to kick-start his career.
It is expected that Dortmund will want to recoup most of the £20 million fee which they paid Munich in the summer for Gotze’s services so that seems to be the fee which Liverpool will have to fork out to get their man.
