Jurgen Klopp reacted exactly as you would expect to Nathaniel Clyne being linked to Barcelona

He has a point...

It’s not a surprise to see Liverpool players being linked with Barcelona.

Philippe Coutinho gets linked with a move to the Catalan club all time, and particularly so recently thanks to his brilliant form for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

While it would be difficult to see Coutinho walking straight into the Barcelona starting XI, he would certainly be a good addition to the squad should a move ever materialise.

Nathaniel Clyne to Barcelona isn’t a move that is as easy to imagine, despite the England full-back impressing for Liverpool this season.

English players rarely sign for teams on the continent, unless they’re looking for loan-moves to get first-team football – like Joe Hart with Torino this season, Micah Richards joining Fiorentina on loan two years ago and Joe Cole going to Lille back in 2011.

However, despite the link appearing strange, albeit not as strange as Glen Johnson joining Barcelona, Spanish media report that Barcelona are on the hunt for a new right-back to fill the void left by the departure of Dani Alves.

Barcelona have used Sergi Roberto and Aleix Vidal in the position, but Luis Enrique is supposedly unconvinced by both players.

Clyne’s good form for Liverpool, a transfer fee of £20m and the fact he wouldn’t be cup tied for European football this season, reportedly make him an option for Barca.

However, Clyne’s manager doesn’t appear worried that he is about to lose the player.

When asked about the rumours following Liverpool’s 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday, Klopp responded exactly how you would expect him to.

Klopp was affable and honest, but ultimately dismissed giving too much credence to a transfer rumour two months before the window opens, and about a player who appears settled at Liverpool.

“What can I say? It’s better that they talk about Real Madrid and Barcelona,” the Liverpool manager said.

“How many matches have we played? Nine, ten? F**king hell, 10 matches and we talk about all this stuff. Do they want to get them in winter or the next window?

“Do they think they can buy Clyney in winter? Come on. It’s nice but not important.”

Barcelona might just have to settle for Johnson.
