Now it’s official.
It seems like every year, more and more names that made the modern era of football special are retiring. Andrea Pirlo recently hung up his boots, and now another star of the 2006 World Cup has done the same. Kaká entertained us all for years, he gave the world moments of magic with his unbelievable skill, he won a World Cup in 2002 and the Ballon d’Or in 2007, as well as seven club trophies throughout his career at AC Milan and Real Madrid.
Now, it’s officially over. We knew it was coming – he gave an emotional interview after his last game for Orlando City, where he spent the autumn of his career. But today he officially confirmed his retirement from the beautiful game on Twitter.

We all remember his ‘I belong to Jesus’ vest which became iconic after he won the Champions League in 2007 with AC Milan. Ten years down the line, he still wears the same design, as he showed in the tweet officially confirming his retirement.
Father,
It was much more than I could ever imagined. Thank you! I’m now ready for the next journey. In Jesus name. Amem.Pai,
Foi muito mais do que eu pedi ou imaginei!Obrigado! Eis-me aqui para próxima jornada. Em nome de Jesus. Amém. pic.twitter.com/PofZBAV0BE— Kaka (@KAKA) December 17, 2017
Truthfully, he has been past his best since his time at Real Madrid. Wearing the famous all white, he never managed to rediscover the form he hit during Milan’s successful period in the mid noughties. But class is permanent, and what the memories he gave to the footballing world will always remain special. He is a true legend of the game.
