For Championship clubs, football can often be a game of very narrow margins.
That makes refereeing mistakes all the more significant, especially for teams on a poor run.
Leeds United were winless in four league games going into their meeting with Sheffield Wednesday, and after going 2-0 down they thought they’d restored some hope when Liam Cooper turned home a free-kick.
But the referee ruled it out…because Wednesday were in the middle of making a substitution.
Fans of the away side were incensed.
Worst refereeing display I've ever saw from Anthony Taylor. Embarrassing. Didn't get a single decision right! Leeds so poor though #LUFC

Many were unsurprised
I've watched Anthony Taylor with bemusement ever since he sent off Jonny Howson after giving a free-kick for a Middlesbrough dive

There was some of the usual wisecracking.
Kickstarter raising money to start kicking referee Anthony Taylor. £20 lets you kick him in the leg. £50 for a kick up the arse.

Hard to choose between Marco Silvestri and Anthony Taylor for Wednesday's man of the match #lufc

But others took it in their stride
Anthony Taylor blew the whistle as he didn't actually expect us to beat the first man with a set piece
