We all love a clever free kick routine. Well, all of us except goalkeepers.
Leeds United were trailing 1-0 to Burton Albion today when they decided to use a free kick routine straight off the training ground.
Leeds placed two players in the goalkeeper’s eye line, blocking his view of his defensive wall, preventing him from organising them. Pablo Hernandez took full advantage.
Burton goalkeeper Stephen Bywater was blinded and did not know where to stand, or where to look. Desperate to cause disruption to Leeds’ plan to blind him, he decided to pull down Eunan O’Kane’s shorts. A bizarre technique, one we don’t see everyday, and one for which he was cautioned.
His attempt to spoil Leeds’ plans did not work as just after the aforementioned players blocking Bywater’s view sprinted to stand behind the wall, keeping themselves onside, Pablo Hernandez bent the free kick over the wall and into the back of the net.
The former Swansea man now has 6 goals to his name this season, and continues to be a source of creativity and goals for Leeds who are now sat in 5th, looking to kickstart another promotion push.
Leeds went on to win 2-1 after a Kemar Roofe slotted a winner past Bywater 3 minutes later.
