France’s rugby players will arrive home to the wrath of their supporters after the tamest of World Cup exits against New Zealand, and the nation’s sporting newspaper of record is leading the chorus of disapproval.
L’Equipe has pulled no punches in its ratings of the French side, with Bernard le Roux’s four out of ten the highlight, if you dared called it that.
The remaining members of the starting XV all bank twos and threes, save for out-half Freddie Michalak, who was not rated after his early departure.
His short appearance would hardly have seen him do any better than his team-mates, though, as his final act was the charged down kick which led to New Zealand’s opening try in the 62-13 thrashing.
That moment which will go down as Michalak’s last contribution to international rugby, as he announced his retirement.
