The eye-watering amounts of money pocketed by some of the world’s top footballers have been revealed recently through a series of leaks.
Now though, it appears that Spanish news outlet ARA have blown the lid on the some of the finer details of the contract belonging to Lionel Messi – the biggest name in the game.
Having renewed with Barcelona back in 2014, it’s claimed that the Argentine has a fixed salary of €22.8m (around £17m). But due to one of the terms of his deal, Messi’s earnings are set to almost double to a staggering €39.4m (just under £30m) next summer.
With such a significant pay increase around the corner, it’s logical that some might speculate Barca may try and offload him. However, it appears that might not be happening either.
The same report claims that if his employers do wish to sell him before his pay increase kicks in, they’d have to stump up almost €20m in compensation costs to the player.
If the report is to be believed, it’s safe to say that Lionel Messi won’t be leaving Barcelona in the near future.
