We’d like to be as passionate about anything as Gudmundur Benediktsson is about Iceland’s national team.
You may (definitely do) remember the incredibly animated Icelandic commentator and his amazing reaction to the counter-attacking goal in the dying moments against Austria that secured the team’s progress to the knockout stages of Euro 2016, their first European Championships.
Benediktsson, who unfortunately lost his day job as assistant manager of KR Reykjavik just two days ago, was able to put his professional troubles behind him on Monday night.
In fact, we’re pretty sure that it was the furthest thing from his mind as he witnessed his country claim a huge scalp by upsetting England by a scoreline of 2-1 to take their place in the Euro 2016 quarter-finals.
This is how Benediktsson reacted to Kolbeinn Sigthorsson’s decisive goal in the first half.

And this… This is how the man who will definitely need a lozenge roared once the final whistle was blown.
“You can leave Europe! You can go wherever the hell you want!”

In fairness, it’s hard to begrudge them the win when you see how much it means to them. They’re showing that smaller nations can make a difference on the biggest stage.
Imagine if they went all the way… We don’t think Benediktsson’s heart could hack it.
