Liverpool could welcome back a club legend under Klopp

Just when you thought it wasn’t possible for Liverpool fans to get more excited, the club’s CEO opened the door for some Kop legends to return.

Speaking at the press conference to unveil new manager Jurgen Klopp, Ian Ayre was quizzed on whether the likes of Steven Gerrard, Didi Hamann or Jamie Carragher might join the German’s coaching staff.

“That’s for Jurgen to assess. No plans at this stage,” Ayre said. So while no role has been specifically lined up, the club have certainly not ruled out introducing some familiar names.

Carragher had already piqued the interest of Reds fans with comments about looking forward to working with Klopp, though he later clarified that this was in relation to Monday Night Football rather than a specific role at Anfield.

Klopp clearly values Liverpool’s rich history, and will look to restore the club to their past glories, but he’s remaining grounded.

“History is only the base for us,” he said. “You can’t carry it in your backpack every day.”
