He didn’t shy away from the question.
There is an unwritten rule in football about players discussing transfers. If it involves them, they won’t talk about it. If it involves a player from another club, they certainly won’t talk about it. Like red-faced politicians, footballers are remarkably adept at dodging and swerving questions.
When it came to Philippe Coutinho’s mooted move from Liverpool to Barcelona, however, Paulinho was surprisingly illuminating, probably much to the ire of Reds fans.
With the January transfer window due to open in just a few days’ time, Liverpool supporters are sweating over Coutinho’s potential departure. Paulinho did not help matters with his latest comments during an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
“I make jokes that people are already looking for a house for him. I try to give him the basic information, the most important for him and his family, because maybe the time he lived here was not enough to know the city.
“But he knows that Barcelona is a very good city, that offers everything for him and his family.”

Paulinho went further to hint that Coutinho’s former Liverpool teammate Luis Suarez could be a factor in the Brazilian making the switch to the Camp Nou.
“Coutinho knows that there are great players, like Suarez, with whom he met at Liverpool and he gets along very well, he is a person who always tries to help.”
“Now we have to wait until the transfer can be made in January to come here.”
Coutinho reminded everyone why Barcelona have made him their number one transfer target on Boxing Day with a glorious goal to open the scoring in Liverpool’s 5-0 rout of Swansea City.
