Could this be Jurgen Klopp’s first Liverpool signing?
The Anfield club are believed to be in talks with Red Star Belgrade over the purchase of Serbia Under-21 midfielder Marko Grujic.
The Liverpool Echo reports that the Merseysiders have already approached Red Star about the 19-year-old, who is already a key figure in a title-chasing side, with a fee of around £5million mooted.
Grujic is also on the radar of several other top European clubs, including Chelsea, but in making the first move Liverpool will hope to be able to capture the player, either in January or next summer.
Liverpool scouts were in Belgrade over the weekend to watch Grujic score in a 7-2 win over Cukaracki and having met with club officials after the game, Grujic said:
“I’ll try to respect the club, the fans and the general public, but again I think that for myself I have to choose the best environment where I get the chance to play and where I work with good coaches in good conditions.
“It is certain that I remain here until the end of qualifying for the Champions League. I had a talk with Liverpool but I did not receive yet any agreement. I’m still a Red Star player.”
