Lucas Leiva, is that you?
Reports in Germany claim Liverpool are set to make a move for Emil Forsberg, a 24-year-old winger playing for Red Bull Leipzig in the German second division.
Bild claim Jurgen Klopp is prepared to pay €9m for the Swede, who is widely regarded as the best in Bundesliga II.
Forsberg has also reportedly attracted interest from Italian clubs Roma and Inter Milan. While many thought the new Liverpool manager’s first signing would be from Germany, most would have expected it to be someone from his former club Borussia Dortmund, rather than a player in the second division.
Klopp has form for finding rough diamonds in the past, however, signing Shinji Kagawa for Dortmund from the Japanese second division, and pipping Blackburn Rovers to Robert Lewandowski.
What’s for certain is that Forsberg is a dead ringer for his potential new teammate Lucas Leiva.
