The sacking of Brendan Rodgers has opened the door for former Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp, but Ian Wright believes he should be taking a Liverpool legend with him.
Speaking to The Sun, the former Arsenal striker said that if Klopp wants to win over the Kop, he’ll need the help of former Reds defender Jamie Carragher.
He explained: “Jamie would be perfect as that link between new and old, the ideal guy to complement a fresh manager and make his rebuilding job that much easier.”
While he agrees that Klopp is the right man for the job, Wright warns Liverpool not to stray too much from the culture that made the club great in the first place.
“The fella is a Liverpool legend,” said Wright. “Someone the current players relate to and respect in equal measure and someone who understands the place from top to bottom. Can you imagine the massive shot in the arm it would give everyone to have not only Klopp but also Carragher in there?
“We all know how much stock they’ve put on the old Boot Room ethos at Anfield over the years. How important is has been to have a Scouser on the backroom team who understands the emotion and the passion which go hand in hand with working at one of the world’s great clubs.”
