Liverpool continue training camp despite positive Covid-19 test

The identity of the person to test positive is not yet known

Liverpool have suffered a positive coronavirus test at their pre-season training camp in Austria, according to local media outlet Kronen Zeitung.

The identity of the person to test positive is not yet confirmed – it could be any member of the travelling party, from the technical staff to the players. A follow-up test will be taken to rule out the chance of a false positive before the case is confirmed.

The Mirror report But Liverpool will continue training as normal despite this, with the Community Shield against Arsenal just 11 days away, with the club yet to comment on the matter.

Liverpool were initially meant to train in Evian this month, but after the UK government imposed a 14 day quarantine on those returning from France, had to quickly change their plans and arrange a camp in Austria.

The players and staff are completely cut off from the public at their training camp, having taken over a hotel on the outskirts of Salzburg. Players took tests before travelling, on arrival and regularly throughout the past week.

If a player tests positive, they move into isolation for seven days and will not rejoin the group until they test negative.

Plans remain unaffected in the camp, with contact training sessions and hotel dining continuing as normal.
