Simon Mignolet may no longer be Liverpool’s first choice goalkeeper, but it seems the club won’t be losing the Belgian’s trademark slip-ups.
The former Sunderland number one was dropped from the first team last season after a series of less-than-flattering performances, only for his replacement Adam Bogdan to mess up just as badly in the defeat to Watford last December.
That was all supposed to change with Loris Karius, though. The handsome German has arrived from Mainz, and at least we can say he’s getting his mistakes out the way early in meaningless friendlies.
The 23-year-old was between the sticks as Jurgen Klopp’s team travelled to Wigan, in a Liverpool line-up which was a mix of first-teamers, youngsters and new signings.
Joel Matip and Sadio Mane both started after arriving from Schalke and Southampton respectively.
But it was Karius who came close to stealing the show for all the wrong reasons as he very nearly conceded a first-half goal in embarrassing/hilarious circumstances (delete one or the other depending on whether or not you’re a Liverpool fan).
Thankfully he got away with the mistake and was just a little shaken. It could have been a lot worse.

Many more errors like this and Liverpool may well decide to step up their efforts to sign veteran former Arsenal goalkeeper Alex Manninger.
