The Picadilly line tube station will pay tribute to the England manager

Southgate tube station will be renamed after England manager Gareth Southgate for a 48 hour period, Transport for London has announced.

The temporary change will be made in tribute to Southgate and his achievements with the current England team, who finished in fourth place at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.

It is the joint second best finish every for an England team at a World Cup, beaten only by England’s home triumph in 1966.

Starting today, Southgate Underground station’s signs will be changed to display ‘Gareth Southgate’ until the end of Tuesday.

Mark Wild, TfL’s London Underground managing director, said: “The great performance of the England team this summer brought people of all ages together in celebration.

“We’re delighted to be able to show our appreciation to Gareth and the team by renaming the station in his honour.

“This is another great example of how we, and brands, can work creatively together.”
