After everything that has happened with Luis Suarez, you’d have thought he might have chosen his words slightly better.
Or maybe he’s just a massive joker and the joke’s on us.
But the Uruguayan striker used a rather choice phrase when chewing over Barcelona’s current on-field struggles.
Suarez, who has become infamous for sinking his teeth into rival players on three different occasions, said his Barca side was lacking, erm, a bit of bite.
You could not write this stuff.
Speaking on ‘Hat Trick Barça’ on regional Catalan TV station TV3 , Suarez said: “We don’t have the same bite as last season.”
In the same interview he bit back at fans who had jeered the team against Bayern Leverkusen in the Champions League.
“It doesn’t make any sense that they whistle the team,” he said. “It’s not enjoyable for them to whistle for nothing, without any reason.
“Everything was brilliant when the treble was won, when the European Super Cup was won, and now for losing one or two games they’re criticising the side for a few things, which I don’t think makes sense”.
Suarez admitted there was a huge Lionel Messi-shaped hole in the team, after the Argentine was ruled out through injury.
“Obviously with Leo it’s a lot easier, but without him I have to try to make it easy too and everybody has to take responsibility for his work and do it as well as possible.
“Nobody can take his place because he’s irreplaceable”.
Just as long as you don’t get your bite back, Luis.
