Maccabi Tel Aviv fans display anti refugee banner

There's always one...

Ben Kenyon

The Syrian refugee crisis has sparked an incredible reaction from football clubs and fans alike right across Europe.

We’ve seen English, German and Scottish supporters displaying ‘Refugees Welcome’ banners during games.

Europe’s biggest clubs followed suit with 80 Champions League and Europa League sides vowing to donate millions of pounds to helping ease the suffering of families fleeing from conflict in civil war-ravage Syria.

Arsenal were set to donate £1 from every ticket sold in their Premier League clash with Stoke this weekend.

Football has truly done itself proud – well, almost.

While the response to fellow human in need has been mostly positive, an ugly example of anti-refugee sentiment have been seen at a games in Israel.

Israeli champions Maccabi Tel Aviv fans displayed this banner in their game against Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona.
