Hell hath no fury like an official Major League Soccer Twitter account when a big name player decides to piss off back to Europe after a few months.
Things haven’t worked out for Nigel De Jong during his time at LA Galaxy. The former Manchester City midfielder, best known for nearly kicking Xabi Alonso into orbit during the 2010 World Cup Final (and not getting sent off), has left the club for Galatasaray, only seven months after landing in California.
The following video was tweeted by MLS’s official Twitter account (and then later deleted) as De Jong’s move to Turkey was confirmed, and it’s safe to say that our American friends aren’t too upset to see Nige head for pastures new.
Noting that he’s offered absolutely nowt in terms of goals or assists (why would he? He’s Nigel De Jong, not Lionel fucking Messi), the video highlights that he has managed three yellow cards and a red during his stint. Accompanying these stats, there’s also an impressive montage of De Jong’s mistimed tackles.

Highlighting the ‘ugly’ tackle he made on Portland Timbers’ Darlington Nagbe which earned the Dutchman a three match suspension, the video claims that this was probably ‘his most dramatic accomplishment during his time in MLS’.
Ouch. Poor Nige.
