Arsenal’s days of losing a star player to a Premier League rival might not be over.
According to Spanish language magazine Don Balon, Louis van Gaal has contacted the representatives of Alexis Sanchez in the hopes of bringing the former Barcelona man to Old Trafford.
The report claims Van Gaal has identified Sanchez as the man he wants to be the fulcrum of his squad for the next few years, while French champions PSG are also supposedly tracking his availability.
But there’s no need for Arsenal fans to panic yet. The Chilean media seemed certain just a few months ago that Arturo Vidal would be plying his trade in north London by now. And while he has made one appearance at the Emirates this season, it was for his new club Bayern Munich.
In addition, Don Balon claim any deal would cost United somewhere in the region of €70m (£50m).
But with Arsenal not needing to sell, Sanchez seemingly happy in London and Arsene Wenger unlikely to want to send yet another key player to a rival, it would be safe to assume that any potential fee would need to be much higher.
