Kylian Mbappe managed to get on the wrong side of his opponents on Friday afternoon.
The Paris Saint-Germain wonderkid was part of the France team that beat Uruguay 2-0 in the World Cup quarter-finals.
With France in control of the tie against a depleted Uruguay, without injured Edinson Cavani, Mbappe decided to showboat on the ball in the second-half. Uruguay didn’t like the 19-year-old trying to take the piss out of them when they were about to get knocked out of the World Cup.
Mbappe angered the Uruguayans further when he dropped to the ground after receiving a slight tap on the stomach from Cristian Rodriguez. On ITV, Martin O’Neill joked that Mbappe got off lightly, and he wouldn’t have been as easy on the forward if he was in Rodriguez’s shoes.
“I’m very much in the Rodriguez camp. I’d have chinned him,” O’Neill joked.
“I am totally incapable of chinning anyone. Mbappe has gone down is a ridiculous fashion. Rodriguez was telling him to stop play-acting.”
