You don’t want to mess with Matt Serra
His fighting days may be over, but Matt Serra is still more than able to handle himself. At 44 years of age, the former UFC welterweight champion is still a force to be reckoned with.
He’s best known for his stunning upset over Georges St-Pierre. However, since hanging up his gloves for good in 2010, Serra has changed his focus.
His Serra-Longo camp in Long Island has produced talents such as former UFC middleweight champion Chirs Weidman, one-time UFC lightweight title challenger Al Iaquinta as well as Gian Villante and Aljamain Sterling. Aside from being a world class MMA coach, he is also a talented broadcaster.
Let’s not forget Serra’s background though. The man is a serious Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioner. He’s a fourth-degree black belt under Renzo Gracie and an ADCC silver-medalist. In other words, if you’re on the ground with Serra, you’re already in serious trouble.
This is what one rowdy customer found out a Las Vegas restaurant the other day. The New York native uploaded a video of himself subduing the allegedly drunk patron whom Serra claims was causing trouble with staff in the restaurant.
Serra didn’t harm the man. He just put his black belt to good use to make sure he couldn’t do any damage. He basically just held him down until security stepped in to calm the situation down.
An eventful start to an eventful week for Serra. He’s in Sin City for his induction to the Hall of Fame at UFC 226.
