Kylian Mbappe is going nowhere. Not yet, anyway.
Entering the World Cup having already established himself as one of the most exciting young players in the game, Mbappe was one of the stars of the tournament as France became world champions for a second time.
And, as often happens when a player has a good World Cup, the 19-year-old has now been linked with a(nother) big money move. Real Madrid (of course) are reportedly interested, despite releasing statement to deny such claims.
For now though, Mbappe has no immediate plans to leave Paris Saint-Germain, who he joined from AS Monaco last summer, telling reporters after the World Cup final that he intended to stay put.
Fabinho, one of Mbappe’s former Monaco teammates, has now revealed the pair have been in contact this summer and that he hopes he can persuade the youngster to eventually join him at Liverpool.
The Brazilian completed his move to Anfield within 48 hours of the Champions League final in May and revealed that Mbappe sent him a text to congratulate him on his move.
“Unfortunately I have not had a chance to congratulate him for what he did during this World Cup,” he’s quoted as saying in the Daily Mail.
“What France did was fantastic. What Mbappe did in two years of professional football is amazing. He is a phenomenon and needs to be congratulated, and as soon as I have the chance I will.”
Asked about the possibility of Mbappe following him to Merseyside, he responded: “He has already said for this season he will remain at PSG, but I will try slowly to convince him to come over.”
Fabinho became Liverpool’s first major signing of the summer. Since his move was confirmed, he’s been joined at the club by Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson. Talk of resurrecting a move for Lyon’s Nabil Fekir also refuses to die after the transfer collapsed shortly before the World Cup.
