‘The Notorious’ was a guest of honour at the 2018 World Cup final.

Conor McGregor has had a busy time of it in recent weeks.

The UFC star was at the Longitude festival in Dublin on Saturday, his partner Dee Devlin announced she was pregnant and, on Sunday, he was at the World Cup final… as the guest of Russian premier Vladimir Putin.

The Dubliner was at the Luzhniki Stadium, where he watched France defeat Croatia 4-2 to win their first World Cup in 20 years.

Following the game, McGregor took to social media to post a snap of himself with Putin and offer his thanks. He wrote: ‘Today I was invited to the World Cup final as a guest of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

‘This man is one of the greatest leaders of our time and I was honored to attend such a landmark event alongside him.

‘Today was an honor for me Mr. Putin. Thank you and congratulations on an amazing World Cup.’

Needless to say, the McGregor post has sparked a strong reaction online. While some congratulated him on securing a match final ticket, many were unhappy at his praise for Putin and his leadership.
