Jon Jones tested positive for steroid metabolite after UFC 232

The UFC heavyweight champion reportedly failed the test taken shortly before UFC 232

Jon Jones has failed another drug test after testing positive for steroid metabolites during a test carried out prior to his victory over Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232.

According to MMAFighting, the sample was taken on the day of the weigh-ins prior to the fight, with the results returning last week.

Jones has failed a number of drug tests during his time in the UFC, with his most recent ban beginning in July 2017 and ending in October 2018 in relation to the same M3 metabolite being discovered in his system.

The American’s UFC 232 fight against the Swede Gustafsson was his comeback bout from that ban, but there was drama surrounding it too when it was moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles due to the presence of the metabolite and his inability to get a Nevada license.

The fight was allowed to continue despite the trace amounts being found, and Jones will escape a ban from the California State Athletic Commission, due to the fact that the CSAC felt the presence was from his previous offence, rather than a re-offence.

He defeated Gustafsson with a third round knockout at UFC 232 to regain the light heavyweight belt.
