UFC commentator Jon Anik called it the “greatest individual performance ever seen”

Max Holloway smashed eight records in his win over Calvin Kattar at UFC Fight Island 7, it has been revealed. It was one of the most impressive individual showings in recent memory.

The UFC featherweight champion picked up the win via decision after a gruelling battle with Kattar. It capped off a fantastic clash between two true warriors, and is, by some margin, Holloway’s best performance to-date.

At one point, the 29-year-old even turned to talk to the commentary team. Talk about showboating. If that wasn’t enough, he subsequently threw a no-look punch, and then dodged five or six attempted strikes from Kattar.

When turning to the commentary team, Holloway referred to himself as “the best boxer in the UFC”, and there were definite shades of Ali in Holloway’s evasive boxing skills.

The Hawaii native seems to think so, too.

Posting on Instagram, commentator Jon Anik called it the “greatest individual performance ever seen”. Anik then went on to list eight records that Holloway broke in the win.

He set new records for:

  • Number of significant strikes landed: 445
  • Significant strike attempts: 744
  • Distance strikes landed: 439
  • Significant head strikes landed: 274
  • Significant body strikes landed: 117
  • Significant strikes landed in a single round: 141
  • Total strikes landed: 447
  • Total strikes attempted: 746

Of these records, perhaps the most impressive is the number of significant strikes landed. Holloway’s 445 is streets ahead of the previous best: 29o – also held by, you guessed it – Max Holloway.

Since setting foot in the octagon, Holloway has landed 2,618 significant strikes in total. This puts Holloway almost a thousand strikes in front of the second best score on the list: 1,711.

This strike rate is made all the more impressive when you consider the fact he’s fought Conor McGregor, Jose Aldo and Dustin Poirier. He went up against Aldo and Poirier twice.

Responding to Holloway’s claim that he is the best boxer in the UFC, McGregor simply said: “Lol”.

The Notorious goes up against Dustin Poirier next Sunday, January 24 at UFC 257.
