Nate Diaz is eyeing up a re-match for his next fight…but not with Conor McGregor

Kevin Beirne

Since dispatching Conor McGregor at UFC 196, we’ve all been wondering what’s next for Nate Diaz.

You’d think that such a high-profile victory would give Diaz his pick of whatever fight he wanted, but the trash-talking Californian isn’t getting too carried away with who he wants to face next.

Diaz’s brutal submission of The Notorious came at welterweight, but he doesn’t want to upset his older brother Nick by making a permanent move up the weight classes.

Nate-Diaz-motivation

Potential welterweight superfights with Georges St-Pierre and Robbie Lawler have been touted for the Stockton native, but he says he’s happy to stick around at lightweight in search of a re-match with current champion Rafael dos Anjos.

“Those are both great fights, big fights, but those are both my brother’s fights. I’m not going to step on his shoes,” Diaz told Rolling Stone.

“I’m not going to into his weight because everybody wants to see Nick vs. GSP or Nick vs. Lawler. I would like to fight for the lightweight title. But if I did the 170 thing I would like them to work out the deal with Nick and I’ll take the leftovers.”
