If someone told us last year that Steven Gerrard and Joey Barton could be set to clash in the Old Firm derby, we’d have laughed in their faces.
But that may well be the case, with reports emerging from Glasgow that newly-appointed Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers wants his former captain to follow him to Parkhead.
Gerrard is currently living it up in Los Angeles where he is being heavily rewarded for his services, but a return to the UK – as well as a reunion with his most recent Liverpool boss – may prove enough to entice him to link up with the Scottish champions.
Rodgers was officially unveiled as Hoops boss on Friday, replacing Ronny Deila who flattered to deceive in his two seasons with the Scottish giants.
Despite securing back-to-back SPL titles alongside one League Cup, the Norwegian failed to win over Bhoys supporters as his team failed to make any sort of a mark in Europe.
And The Sun claim that the former Liverpool manager wants a reunion with Gerrard by signing the midfielder up to a player-assistant manager contract.
Gerrard is currently contracted to MLS side LA Galaxy until December and Rodgers wants to offer the 35-year-old his first path into coaching.
We imagine that it would take a massive sell from Rodgers to tempt Stevie G away from sunny Los Angeles to, well, less sunny Glasgow.
