‘He drives like an angry teenager’

New footage has emerged of Max Verstappen’s crash with Lewis Hamilton at the Hungarian Grand Prix this past weekend.

As the pair battled for third place on the grid the Dutchman and the Brit collided on the first turn with seven laps to go.

Now, onboard footage from the cockpit of Verstappen’s car gives a clearer view of how the incident unfolded.

Three-time world champion, Verstappen was frustrated by FIA and team orders throughout the race and in a last-ditch attempt to gain some points, he dove into the inside of turn one to overtake Hamilton.

However, the manoeuvre didn’t quite go to plan as the Dutchman’s front wheels locked, cutting Hamilton’s turn and causing the seven-time world champion to collide into the back of him and his car was lifted into the air.

Though both drivers and cars were fine to continue, Verstappen took himself out of contention for a podium finish as he crossed the line in fifth.

Verstappen refused to take responsibility at the time but the new footage is damning for the current leader of the Drivers’ Championship.

There was added controversy as Verstappen then attempted to find a way past Lando Norris, but went wide off the track to do so.

Norris was fuming with the manoeuvre and jumped on the radio to demand his second place back after an illegal overtake.

However, the Dutchman felt he was pushed off the track but reluctantly gave the place back.

Strategy errors by the team caused more upset for Verstappen as Hamilton and Charles Leclerc undercut the 26-year-old.

After this new footage emerged, fans on Reddit have slammed Verstappen and joked that his move was something from a video game.

One user said: “I do this all the time in Gran Turismo, it’s fine.”

Another commented: “That’s the strategy I use, hit the other car to slow down and make the corner.”

Whilst someone else responded: “This is how I drive in the F1 game. I’m not very good.”

Though many fans of the sport say that Verstappen ‘drives like an angry teenager’ the Dutchman is still leading the Drivers Championship.
