UFC fighter Nick Diaz has been arrested for an alleged domestic violence incident.
Diaz has been charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation, as well as misdemeanor domestic battery, according to online records.
The incident is said to have taken place on Thursday night in Las Vegas and the alleged victim is a female.
Diaz’s bail has been set at $18,000 and he is currently being held at Clark County Detention Center pending a hearing on Saturday morning.
When asked for comment, the UFC released the below statement.
“UFC is aware of the recent arrest of middleweight athlete, Nick Diaz. The organisation does not tolerate domestic violence and requires all athletes to adhere to the UFC Fighter Conduct Policy. Every athlete is deserving of due process and this situation, as with any official allegations, will be duly reviewed and thoroughly investigated by an independent party.”
Diaz has not fought since his 2015 middleweight clash with Anderson Silva and while he was suspended by the United States Anti-Doping Agency last year due to a whereabouts violation, the 34-year-old became eligible to fight again last month.
