Nigel de Jong doesn’t remember what year he won the Premier League

It happens mate.

It’s easy to get your dates mixed up at work.

Comes with the territory. You do something, week in, week out, and eventually the days all become a blur. You think it’s Wednesday when its Tuesday. You wonder if you’re supposed to be in a meeting next Monday, or the Monday after.

It’s why business diaries exist – you have to write down all the important work stuff, otherwise you’d forget everything.

Which is why we feel for Dutch midfielder Nigel de Jong. The LA Galaxy man (and arch nemesis of Xabi Alonso) ended up with egg on his face when he wanted to reminisce and share some highlights of his career.

Taking to Twitter, de Jong shared an image of his first ever Premier League win with Manchester City.

Nigel de Jong Gaffe

It’s a lovely message, showing that while de Jong may ply his trade elsewhere, his heart still lies in Manchester.

There’s just one thing.

Nigel de Jong didn’t win the Premier League in 2011.

Manchester United did.

It was kind of a big deal too, what with it being United’s 19th title, tying them with Liverpool for most English top flight successes.

Look, see?

So while we don’t want to be all *pushes glasses up nose* “Well actually…”, we’ll let this Manchester City fan do it for us.

Like we said, getting your dates confused at work happens. Nigel went on to fix his error, tweeting (twice!) a the image with the correct date of City’s title win in 2012.

Problem solved.

Only when you add it to Fernando confusing his Capital One Cup win with the FA Cup earlier this summer, it begs the question: why can Manchester City players get their facts right?

Maybe they need more help proof reading their tweets. They simply shouldn’t be making these mitsakes.

#TBT with caution.
